Description

This Hose End Feeder is ideal for applying Nemasys Nematodes.

It has been tested and approved for applying the Nematodes listed below by Nematodes Direct and can also be used for applying liquid feed to plants and lawns.

It simply attaches via standard hose-pipe connector (not included) and features both a rose head and jet spray as well as an on / off switch for water flow.

Getting started with your Hose End Feeder:

1) Set the spray mode to "FLAT".

2) Set the application dial to "FEED & WATER"

3) Follow the process(es) below depending on the type of nematodes you will be applying.

Please note: The feeder bowl will contain the "clay filler material" and water, even after the nematodes have been applied. Simply wash this out on your lawn after you have applied the nematodes, as per the instructions below.

Nemaslug application instructions using a Hose-end Feeder (40sqm & 100sqm) :-

  1. Mark out the area to be treated - 40sqm or 100sqm.
  2. Wash the feeder through with water to ensure it is clean.

  5. Taking care to keep the feeder in an upright position apply evenly to the whole of the area for 8 minutes using a side-to-side motion to keep the nematodes well mixed.
  6. During this time most of the nematodes will have been applied.
  7. Treat the same area again for a further 8 minutes to apply the remaining nematodes as well as to make sure they are adequately watered in.

Nemaslug FAQs

Question: Why use Nemaslug?

Nemaslug is an effective alternative to chemicals. It is safe to use and harmless to children, pets, birds and wildlife. It also works incredibly well in damp and wet conditions, which is when slugs thrive and do the most damage.

Question: How do I apply Nemaslug?

Nemaslug is applied very simply using a watering can with a coarse rosehose-end feeder or 5 litre sprayer (See our video guides or the pack for instructions).

Question: When can I apply Nemaslug?

Nemaslug can be applied any time when slugs are present as long as the soil temperature is 5oC (40oF). We usually stock Nemaslug 365 days of the year, so you can continue to use Nemaslug underglass / in heated greenhouses.

Question: What will Nemaslug control?

Nemaslug will control all common species of small to medium sized slugs up to 8 cm (approx. 3 inches).

Question: How long does Nemaslug work?

One application of Nemaslug will provide at least six weeks control of slugs, we recommend that you re-apply every 6 weeks for the ultimate protection from slugs.

Question: Are there any special precautions?

Only in regards to applying near ponds as Nemaslug might affect water snails. To avoid harming water snails keep the treatment 15cm (6 inches) away from ponds.

Question: Can Nemaslug be used on clay soils?

Nemaslug can be used on clay soils that have been well worked with other organic materials. Do not use if the area you wish to treat is waterlogged or very heavy wet clay.

Question: Is Nemaslug harmful to anything else?

Nemaslug is harmless to other wildlife, pets, birds and children. Its only harmful to slugs and water snails.

Question: Are any special conditions required?

Nemaslug should be applied to moist soil. If applying in hot weather it is better to wait till later in the day when the soil won’t dry out so quickly and the nematodes will have a chance to migrate under the ground during the night. Its beneficial to water it in well after application to ensure you wash all of the nematodes into the soil as they will soon die if they are on the foilage.

Question: Can I apply Nemaslug to pots or containers on a patio?

Yes, you can apply Nemaslug to pots or containers, but you should also use a barrier method around the pots or containers to prevent migrating slugs from getting to the plants. Whist Nemaslug is extremely effective when applied to open soil, it does take time to infect the slugs, in which time they can cause damage to plants.

Question: Can I apply Nemaslug to my patio, gravel, mulch or through fleece or a semi-permeable membrane?

No, we advise against using nematodes in this scenario, because the nematodes live in the soil, it will have no effect if applied to the patio, as the nematodes will rapidly suffer from desiccation and die. Likewise, gravel, mulch or a semi-permeable membrane will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the nematodes, as it prevents them from getting below the soil surface.

Question: What happens if the temperature falls after I have used Nemaslug?

The control may be a little slower. However, the nematodes are capable of surviving even the odd frost.

Question: Will Nemaslug be washed out of the soil during prolonged wet weather?

Unlike some other slug control methods, Nemaslug continues to work well during wet weather – exactly when you need protection against slugs!

Question: Is there any benefit from applying Nemaslug in the autumn?

If you apply Nemaslug in the early autumn you will reduce the number of slugs laying eggs and consequently reduce the new population emerging in the spring.

Question: When is the best time to apply Nemaslug to protect my potatoes against slugs?

The best results are obtained by applying Nemaslug 6 to 7 weeks before harvest. This is when the tubers are most vulnerable to slug attack.

Question: Can I water Nemaslug directly on to plants?

Nematodes live in the soil so, if you can, it is better to apply to the soil. However, if because of dense foliage this is impossible, after application wash them off into the soil with some extra water.

Question: Can I eat produce that has been treated with Nemaslug?

Yes, just wash your fruit and vegetables in the normal way.

Question: Can Nemaslug kill snails?

The nematode used in Nemaslug is a mollusc killer however, nematodes live under the soil and snails tend to stay on the surface, so they don’t come into contact very often. It does have a slight effect on small snails as they remain under the soil for longer.
